NEW— It Came From the Inbox! Updated: Links Added
Upstream Reviews' new vlog series shines a light on the darker corners of our submissions inbox, all in the name of boosting indies.
Giving Some of Our Submissions Recognition (If Not a Recommendation)
One problem we find ourselves with running an indie book review site is that you’re often spoiled for choice; as the wave of the coming cultural renaissance swells and begins to form, one of the most daunting tasks before us is sifting through the offerings that come our way. And yes, it’s true that Hemigway’s rule does hold up quite a bit of the time, be it first draft or final, but our reviewers also have the chance to be surprised by creativity that would never make it into the ossified hands of a tradpub editor.
However, our reviewing team all have lives, jobs and loved ones, and with the volume of submissions coming into our inbox, it can be easy for a hopeful’s request to sadly languish as we try to clear the backlog. It Came From the Inbox is our attempt to do something about that. When volume deems it necessary, we’ll pick three titles to highlight in a short form video in an effort to raise the profile a hardworking indie scribe. Note that these are NOT recommendations from the site. That’s what our reviews are for. All we’re doing here is shining a spotlight in hopes that maybe if can help our a fellow creative.
So enjoy! Let us know what you think of the series. We love hearing from our readers and your feedback means a lot. If you’ve submitted to us and haven’t heard back, don’t hesitate to reach out to us via email at upstreamsubmissions@gmail.com, or follow us on X @upstreamreviews.
