A positive comparison to the Rachel Griffin novels has me sold. Those are some of the BEST fantasy I've ever read. There is a sense of both wonder and joy woven throughout.

While there are 28 sequels, IMO Chris does a good job of having each story stand on its own.

Mind you, there's a couple of times where the story has to be "split" into two books but he does it well IMO.

I've read the whole series, except #29, and it is quite good. It's good enough to read twice.

Already own. I picked it up after the D.P. and I read our way through the "Zero" magic school series (also excellent world-building, btw).

The flavor was off because I did not know then what a chameleon this author is. See his "space marines" adventures (also recommended): very Diana Wynne Jones tier.

I'll have to give this one a reread.
