I wish I could think of someone else who could pull off his trick.
Take The Sum of All Fears. Clancy spent 100 f***ing pages on one f***ing Sequoia. It was cut down in Japan to build a Buddhist Temple in California. He went through the philosophy behind using this tree from the home country. He went into the process of cutting it down. He went through the process of describing how it transported across the Pacific.
Then he went through the process of how it fell off of the transport ship and almost took out a Soviet Nuclear Submarine, and nearly started World War Three.
I don't see many people being able to balance a plot with three or for strands, until they come together like a train wreck. Blaine's really the only other person who comes to mind.
Splashdown is an awesome book! I haven't read Tom Clancy, but I'll take your word for it 😁
